Getting Lost In Those Whiskey Nights…

Music News

As I mentioned in my last blog post, we’ve been working hard as ever both in the studio and on-stage, and I’m excited to share with you some of what we’ve been working on.

As I’ve transitioned from playing solo to playing with a band, it’s been clear that a fresh rebranding was needed to match our equally fresh sound. So we got to thinking about how much of our music influenced by classic American songwriters, as well as how often we are playing at breweries and distilleries. Through some creative collaboration, we finally felt that  “Under the Influence…Of Great American Songwriters Show” accurately depicted both our sound and its ties to fine drinking establishments.

To go along with this new “Under the Influence” brand, we’ve gathered together a few whiskey barrels and old crates that are in much need of some staining and stenciling – a fun project, if you ask me! And that’s not all – we’ve got more effects underway. So for those of you looking to attend our upcoming shows, you can expect the same quality performance (even some longer sets), but boosted with a little more style.

I’m also very excited to share a bit about one of our recently recorded tunes called “Whiskey Nights.” I have to say, this song has been a real treat to bring to life. I wrote it years ago, but decided to keep it in my back pocket until October 2016. Of course, working with Glenn and Rich at The Spot Studios was just the ticket to help capture the song’s essence.

I always enjoy hearing other folks’ interpretations of my songs, and “Whiskey Nights” is no exception. But for the sake of this post, I’ll share a few of my thoughts on it. “Whiskey Nights” doesn’t really focus on one single person or event, but rather a culmination of many years’ observations. It’s about the slow and steadiness of getting lost in whiskey nights – the fogginess that can come with life and love.

We’re still putting the finishing touches on “Whiskey Nights” in the studio, but if you’ve attended any of my shows recently, you may have heard it already. I can’t wait to share the mastered version of it, and am excited to share the band’s upcoming releases as well!
